The Panama Canal Authority has introduced a new regulation mandating that all neo-panamax vessels traversing the canal must be equipped with a Fixed Pilot Unit after 1st of October 2023. This regulation is part of a broader effort to enhance safety, efficiency, and navigation accuracy in the canal.

In response, SAL Navigation and AD Navigation have combined their respective expertise in maritime technology and advanced navigation to develop the SPU-100 Fixed Pilot Unit under the SAL Navigation brand. The product will be sold, installed and supported by SAL Navigation´s world-wide service network.

The FPU will be easy to install, use, and maintain. SAL Navigation will provide comprehensive training and support to ensure customers can fully utilize the FPU’s capabilities.

“We are really thrilled, and this collaboration brings together our collective expertise in maritime technology to address the needs of the shipping industry, ensuring that vessels can navigate the Panama Canal safely and efficiently,” says Kenneth Sved, MD of SAL Navigation.
